Largemouth Bass
Chase trophy Florida-strain largemouth bass in the Everglades with Captain Lester. Freshwater fishing charters from Miami when ocean conditions keep us off the salt.
The Florida Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides floridanus) is legendary among freshwater anglers worldwide, and for good reason. The Florida strain grows bigger than any other subspecies of largemouth bass on the planet, and the warm, nutrient-rich waters of the Everglades produce some of the largest bass in the state. Fish over 8 pounds are caught regularly, and double-digit bass are a real possibility on any given trip into the Glades.
Largemouth bass in the Everglades inhabit the sawgrass marshes, lily pad fields, cypress stands, and canal systems that make up this vast freshwater ecosystem. They are ambush predators that hide in heavy cover and strike with explosive force. The combination of trophy-sized fish and the raw, untouched beauty of the Everglades makes largemouth bass fishing here a truly world-class experience.
When and Where We Fish
Largemouth bass are available year-round in the Everglades, with the spawning season in late winter and early spring (January through April) producing some of the largest fish of the year. On days when ocean conditions are rough and offshore or inshore fishing out of Haulover Inlet is not safe, Captain Lester and Captain Tristen take clients into the Florida Everglades for freshwater bass fishing. The same rates as inshore charters apply, and your fishing day is never wasted.
Technique and Tackle
Florida largemouth bass respond to a variety of techniques depending on the season and conditions. Topwater frogs worked over lily pads, soft plastic worms flipped into sawgrass, spinnerbaits along vegetation edges, and live shiners under a bobber are all productive methods. Captain Lester and Captain Tristen know which technique to use based on water levels, weather, and the time of year.
A World-Class Freshwater Fishery

Fishing for trophy bass surrounded by alligators, wading birds, and miles of untouched wilderness is an experience that visiting anglers never forget. Whether you are a dedicated bass angler or trying freshwater fishing for the first time, the Everglades delivers.
